BULLYING THROUGH MEDIA

Cyber-bullying can be as simple as continuing to send e-mail to someone who has said they want no further contact with the sender, ganging up on victims by making them the subject of ridicule in forums, and posting false statements as fact aimed at humiliation
“Cyberbullying is any harassment that occurs via the Internet. Vicious forum posts, name calling in chat rooms, posting fake profiles on web sites, and mean or cruel email messages are all ways of cyberbullying.”
http://teenadvice.about.com/od/schoolviolence/a/cyberbullying1.htm

In the past, fighting against others at school or having problems with classmates was considered a common stage of childhood, but now it is considered a very serious issue.
According to research done in other countries at least one out of four students have suffered some type of bullying, (in USA and Europe).
Technology has provided new ways to bother classmates. Examples include social sites in the web as facebook, twitter, hi5, myspace, and metroflog. Bullies threaten to upload content that would humiliate their victims. Bullies use photos and offensive comments to belittle their victims.
“The detachment afforded by cyberspace makes bullies out of people who would never become involved in a real life incident. The Internet makes bullying more convenient and since the victim’s reaction remains unseen people who wouldn’t normally bully don’t take it as seriously.”
http://teenadvice.about.com/od/schoolviolence/a/cyberbullying1.htm
In these web sites bullied boys and girls are threatened by uploading funny pictures of them, posting offensive comments about a shameful situation. At the times photos don´t actually exist they are made up and sometimes stalkers even upload videos where all the violence they imposed is recorded.
Kids that suffer from bullying see school as the most horrible place in the world and their home would be a shelter where they are safe out of violence, but now thanks to internet, even if they are at home they can become victims of bullying.
There are several ways of cyber-bullying for example: a person may send offensive e-mails without any consequence because they can do it in an anonymous way, they may also make up a profile of the victim as if they are the victim, using victim´s identity. Some others can spread rumors about some one causing him or her lot of troubles.
“While ignoring the bully be sure to save the evidence so that school officials, Internet providers and even the police can properly deal with the bully. Cyber-bullying may give bullies anonymity but it always leaves evidence.”
http://teenadvice.about.com/od/schoolviolence/a/cyberbullying1.htm

CONCLUSION
Parents may pay attention to what their kids do on the web, so these kind of stuff do not happen any more, also, they joined by school´s teachers should be concious of what information kids may upload in their profiles and what they should not, so they can transmit that to kids.Victims should not respond to any of the abuse they receive. The abuse should be saved as evidence that can be used in the future to punish the bully.

BULLYING AT SCHOOLS LEAVES SEVERAL CONSEQUENCES ITS VICTIMS

Bullying is not something that happens today and tomorrow can easily be forgotten.
Being the victim of bullying leads to future emotional problems, regardless of the present pressures that other kids impose upon them.
Some of these problems are remarkable on their attitude of fear and anxiety. Kids that have been passing through this type of abuse think that school is an unsafe place to be and they hate it. Going to classes is a sacrifice for them and they are capable of inventing or using any excuse to justify missing school. The negative effects not only emotional but also academic these troubles that end in a lack of education for kids.
“Researchers from Finland discovered that victims are more likely than bullies to suffer from anxiety disorders, such as depression, separation anxiety, panic disorder, etc. Also, this psychological stress can cause victims' bodies to be less resistant to disease and infection, and therefore they may get sick more often.”
http://library.thinkquest.org/07aug/00117/bullyingconsequences.html
Most of the problematic adults suffered a kind of abuse during their childhood. Being problematic at their age is just a consequence of how they lived. Suffering the consequences is not an exclusive thing for victims; kids that bully others also tend to experience legal problems as adults.
“Some experts believe that school shootings are related to bullying. Students who committed school shootings were over two times as likely to have reported that they were victims of bullying”
http://library.thinkquest.org/07aug/00117/bullyingconsequences.html
Bullied kids have troubles establishing emotional and social relationships with others because they always feel bad, commonly this is caused by they low self-stem or also by the desire for revenge that they keep.
“Results from cross-sectional surveys suggest that being victimized by peers is significantly related to comparatively low levels of psychological well-being and social adjustment and to high levels of psychological distress and adverse physical health symptoms”
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14631878
Conclusion
Bullying now is so common in schools, collages in any places with boys and girls. It is important to solve this problem that is affecting the children now and in a future. This bullying situation hurts people slowly but deeply. Damage from bullying makes social adjustment and good academic performance.

Children reports physical and psychological bullying

BULLYING: “is an act of repeated aggressive behavior in order to intentionally hurt another person; this aggressive behavior could be physical and psychological”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullying#Definition
Bullying is now most practiced thing at school by children, it´s like a new fashion, the levels of bullying have increased in the last few years.
Think we all practice bullying but at different levels For example in the classes there´s always another guy who is a little bit different or who the majority of the kids don’t get along with, so a group of people make jokes about him, bother him and hit him, etc. They do this just to let know the rest of the class that they are superior, which makes them gain power and respect. All participate in this, because we let it happens and even we celebrate the abuses that our classmates do to others.
Those are not the only the actual effects it causes on kids or adolescence; this produces consequences in the future personality of kids, because all these kinds of behavior are motivated by an emotional disorder and produce one on victims.
Homes are the places where parents most teach kids not to be rude with their peers and show them importance of respect. They are the places where kids that suffer this type of abuse could be detected.
Kids that suffer from bullying can be detected by changes in their attitude, mood, way of speak, the way they interact with others.
The worst thing is that bullying in not an exclusive activity of school; it could be practiced also at workplace and any place where there are groups of people, even at homes.
“There is a strong link between bullying and suicide. Bullying leads to several suicides every year. It is estimated that between 15 and 25 children commit suicide every year in UK alone, because they are being bullied”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullying#Effects_of_bullying_on_victims
CONCLUSIONBullying is something that happens everyday at any hour in our society, stop it depends on all people, education government gives and family values, that every day increases our lack of them.

Gender Violence, Sexism, Racism, Xenophobia, And Homophobia Are Contexts Involved In Bullying.

Sexist, racist, homophobic and bigoted attitudes are all manifested during childhood.
Bullying is a general phenomenon that occurs in all social strata and in all countries that have been investigated. There are common findings: most of those involved are men, the most common form is verbal bullying and the most frequent place to find bullies is the yard. “The main purpose is to reflect on ways that homophobic violence has as part of higher educational institutions in Mexico” (PDF). The assessment of sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular has not been the same throughout history and across cultures.
Homophobia is common among large social groups. It is encouraged by a series of myths and customs widely transmitted by family, and school, and largely reinforced by mass media. Homophobia is a form of discrimination. Discrimination is based on “the notion that some people, distinguished by their distinctive cultural or immutable characteristics… are inferior to other” (Kellough, cited by clerics Morales, 2007:7). Discrimination is not only against a particular person, it may affect the community to which that person belongs. From the above we can conclude that the main cause of homophobic bullying is the way society portrays heterosexuality as the only accepted form of sexuality. Briefly explained, bullying is a form of violence in a relationship where the bullies use the natural or social helplessness of the bulled. Sexual dissidence is an excellent pretext for the exercise of harassment, since the victim belongs structurally a group that is socially reprehensible, which facilitates that the act of bullying is not going to be punished.
“Homophobia and sexism are serving two-way to harass and intimidate the boys and girls most vulnerable: on the hand, they pursue all breaches of gender and sexuality to all, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender. On the other hand, it reminds the boys and girls gays, lesbians, transsexuals and bisexuals have to hide; they have to hide significant parts of their lives and if they are as they are, may be subject to rejection, isolation, ridicule and harassment.” (Platero, 2007:4)
Children need to appreciate the difference between sexual harassment and normal schoolyard taunting, teasing and flirting. The most serious cases could involve sexual touching, bumping or grabbing, as well as lewd talk and the passing of sexually explicit pictures or notes.
One possible solution to this problem would be to make people aware that sexual harassment is knocking on the doors of our houses, followed by a much larger problem which is pornography and child prostitution.
Boys and girls are entitled to enjoy a comprehensive development appropriate to the stage of growth as: childhood and learn to live a healthy world full of possibilities, allowing them to grow physically and intellectually, and not to be victims of sexual exploitation with the only cause to close their horizon and to limit victim’s future.

GEORGINA ABURTO.

Mass media is a factor that affects in the phenomenon of bullying.

Mass media influences and the psychosocial conditions of the victim are social determinants of bullying. Research findings on the phenomenon of bullying confirm that attitudes toward school bullying, perceived strains at school, negative influence from mass media, and poor psychosocial conditions have a relationship.

The media divides people into groups such as nice looking and ugly looking. Television can affect the behavior of bullying and it can have on effect on a bully. Television and videogames present examples of violence and are culprits in the bad behavior of the children within the society. Electronic media can have effects on behavior because much of the content of commercial tv shows is highly violent. Commercials themselves use sophisticated techniques to manipulate viewers into bad behavior. It can result in children having a bad relationship with other children and it can cause them to feel alienated as adults.
Children need to become aware at a very young age that in a world where mass media and mass communication exponentially grow day by day, cyber bullying will only get worse if they allow it to trespass into their personal online lives.

The mass media can be used to promote social growth and thinking skills. Television and the newer electronic media have a great positive potential for learning and development. Mass media can give children strong visual and skills.
Electronic media are better than the printed word for conveying certain types of information, and it makes learning available to a group of children who do not do well in traditional school situations and even to people who cannot read.

The children need to use the mass media in a good way, adults can talk with the bully about two topics of mass media the good way and bad the way of information

introduction about bullying project

*INTRODUCTION*
Bullying is an international problem that is difficult to recognize
Bullying in schools is believed to be a normal part of school life, however, when people begin to have this mentality they forget that bullying is physically and psychologically harmful to both the bully and the victim. Therefore, bullying must be eradicated from schools by raising awareness and increasing supervision.
Understanding bullies is very important because bullies are the main aggressors in our society.
Victims of bullying.
The victim is often singled out because of psychological traits more than physical traits. Victims of bullying often are very sensitive children.
Being a bully may affect a child’s future
Bullies often are problematic persons. Children need to understand that being a bully is wrong and not positive at all.
Mass media is a factor that affects in the phenomenon of bullying.
Mass media influences, and psychosocial conditions of the victim are social determinants for a bullying. Electronic media can have effects on children bad behavior because much of the content of commercial TV shows is highly violent.
Parents have responsibility, they can make the difference between creating a bully or saving one.
Parents are our guide, and also they have the responsibility to take care and always help their children. For that reason they have a big responsibility for whether a kid is a bully or not.
School´s can stop bullying
School is the place in which children spend almost the half of their day, so for that reason is the place in where bullying is most common. The authorities of school need to do something to stop these phenomena.
Obesity is a factor for the bulling
Incredible but true, obesity is a factor for the kids to be bullied. This occurs because obesity is a problem and kids use it to be rude to other kids.

CHILDREN REPORT PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL BULLYING
Bullying is a dairy offensive behavior with the intention to hurt another person, there are many types of bullying. For example the aggression may be physical or psychological, and it may be anonymous, via internet. Physical examples are obvious, but psychological bullying is often less obvious. Just making fun of someone can be very offensive act.

BULLYING AT SCHOOLS LEAVES SEVERAL CONSEQUENCES ITS VICTIMS
Repeated aggression against other always leaves consequences in the victims that suffer them, as bullying’s type consequences also could be physical and psychological, kids that suffered violence have troubles to maintain personal relationships or even interact with society in their adulthood.

BULLYING THROUGH MEDIA
Technology gives us a lot of facilities in our lives for good or bad, almost all people have access and they don´t have to meet many requirements. Cyber-bullying covers vicious forum posts, name calling in chat rooms, posting fake profiles on web sites and mean or cruel emails.

3rd POST

Obesity is a factor in bulling that makes obese kids feel afraid and for being more bullied than other kids.
Obesity is a big problem that is now involved with another problem: bullying.
The kids that are bullies use a lot of factors to bully other kids. The factor that is most commonly used is obesity. So for that reason the weight is a factor that increases the bulling.

The Bulling
Bullying always will be a problem if it is not stopped. In school all authorities need to pay attention in order to stop it. Parents need to pay attention to detect changes in their kids.
“Bullying is when a person is picked on over and over again by an individual or group with more power, either in terms of physical strength or social standing.”
http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_mind/problems/bullies.html
Reasons for bullying
There are a lot of things that the bullies use for bulling others, such as appearance, and social status. They bully the ones they think are different.
Children with obesity are bullied more than other kids
Obese kids are bullied more than other kids because they have the obesity as a problem, and the others kid use that factor to be rude with those kids.
Obese kids miss classes more than other kids. They tend to be more depressed because of the obesity. Obese kids tend to have lower grades because they often suffer from poor nutrition. Nutrition has an effect on learning potential.
“If you were obese, you were more likely to be bullied, no matter what. A study included 821 boys and girls from a nationally representative sample of children selected from 10 sites around the United States. Bullying behaviors were assessed in third, fifth and sixth grades. The principal reason of bullying on those grades was bullying even that most of the students were had an overweight.” http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_mind/problems/bullies.html

“Obese children were almost twice as likely to be bullied as normal-weight children, regardless of other demographic, social, and academic factors, a multicenter study found.”
“But children may be bullied for many reasons, and whether obese children are targeted because of their weight or because of other confounding factors had not previously been determined.”
http://www.medpagetoday.com/Pediatrics/Obesity/19852

Being Bullied According to Various Risk Factors
The table shows that the obese kids are more bullied than other kids.

(a survey out of 10 students of Mexico and 10 of U.S.A that were asked the major reasons of bullying)

This means that half of the students asked in Mexico know that obesity is the principal reason of bullying in schools because Mexico has a problem with nutrition and programs at schools.

Obesity is not only a problem in Mexico; it is a problem that affects the entire world. Obesity always will be used by kids for bullying.
Obesity is predictive of bullying involvement for both boys and girls. Preadolescent obese boys and girls are more likely to be victims of bullying because they are different in appearance.

All children and even adults like to fit in, have friends and feel accepted. So, sometimes they have to endure types of bullying.

Who ever came up with the phrase “Sticks and stones can hurt my bones but words can never hurt me” must never have had someone call them names or make fun of them.

The first type of bullying is called, Name-calling or Teasing, these are forms of verbal bullying. Name-calling was the most prevalent form of bullying identified in many studies. “When someone kicks or punches us it hurts us on the outside, while when someone teases us or calls us names, it hurts us on the inside.” (Wikipedia). In many classrooms teasing and name-calling are the most common forms of bullying. Unfortunately, because they don’t leave scratches or bruises and often happen when there are no adults around, they can go unnoticed by parents or teachers
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullying
.

Exclusion, it is another type of bullying, this is when a person or a group of people live someone out, I mean, when this group of people won’t let play someone with them, join a group activity or will invite everyone to come to a party or take part in a game except for one person on purpose.

Physical Bullying, some kids not only tease others or exclude others; they can also be physically abusive. Kicking, punching, pinching, pushing are all forms of physical bullying. It is never okay to hurt someone physically even if they have hurt you. While it can be very tempting to hit someone if they have hurt you in some way, this is not going to make you feel better or solve the problem. Being physically bullied is incredibly scary for a victim and puts them at great risk. “Many children have been seriously injured by physical bullying. Often, the kids doing this end up hurting victims more than they meant to. In some cases, victims have been killed accidentally” (Students).
http://education.staffordshire.gov.uk

Cyber-bullying is bullying that takes place on the internet or with cell phones. It can take the form of many of the above forms of bullying, the only difference is instead of happening face-to-face, it takes place on-line via websites, chat-rooms or text-messaging. “The cyber-bully may send the victim threatening emails, take pictures or video of them and post them on-line or say mean things about the victim in a chat-room.”(Education). While all forms of bullying are very hurtful and embarrassing for the victim, cyber-bullying can be especially painful because of how many people may see the photos, videos, name-calling or teasing

1st Post. Bullies description.

Understanding bullies is very important because bulies are the main aggressors in our society. Different studies point to males as the main aggressors, while others point to the females as protagonists of events that use more subtle psychological elements in their intimidation.
Depending on the personality and behavior of each individual it can easily be deduced whether or not a person is a bully. The attacker is characterized by impulsive and aggressive temperament with poor social skills to communicate and negotiate their wishes. This kind of person tends to lack empathy for the feelings of the victim. This type usually feels very little guilt for his/her actions
· Bullies can have several consequences that affect the bully later in life.
Yooth bullying may lead the offender learning about how to achieve goals. “As an adult, the bully might use the same techniques. This could put the bully on the threshold of criminal behavior.” (Convivencia sin violencia)
The phenomenon of bullying is something common between all schools, with no difference in ethnicity, urban or rural, private or public schools, boys or girls. Lack of no anger management and a high level of hostility makes relationships with others a source of conflict and aggression.

second post:School´s can stop bullying

As a culture we need to focus more on the bullying problem. All children pass almost half their day in school and this is the place where bullying take place, so for that reason it is important that school´s do something to stop bullying.
School must stop bullying
Bullying is huge problem in schools, and schools need to have programs in place to successfully stop it. Bullying is not a phase that kids go through; it is not just a minor problem. It absolutely does interfere with learning and with emotional well-being. In fact, it can make for long-term emotional concerns.
Schools must do the following things to combat bullying:
“challenging all bullying behaviour
befriending younger children
talking about bullying
Or, by taking part in your schools' anti-bullying activities such as:
acting in plays
designing posters
carrying out surveys”
http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2007/06/adviceforyoungpeople

Teachers need to act in a proper way, in order to control this problem.
When children are in school they must talk more with their teachers. So for that reason teachers need to make a special effort to recognize the problem and to do something to stop bullying.
Teachers need to take a special action when they recognize bullying, and they must prepare to do something right away.
Teachers must keep the following things in mind:
“Immediate intervention is crucial.
Clear procedures must take place when a case of bullying is discovered.
Many teachers and schools find it helpful to develop clear statements of what is appropriate behavior in the classroom.
This may be in the form of a school-wide Code of Conduct or in an individual classroom or school statement.
Because victims can be passive and withdrawn, others need to tell when they see bullying.
Good teachers encourage the ‘telling of tales’.
They develop mechanisms to ensure that their pupils can report bad behaviour without fear of retribution or being chastised for telling tales.”
“A good teacher will:
Notice when a pupil is isolated and sad.
Look for the reasons for this.
Not see it as just play-fighting, name-calling, a bit of fun or just part of growing up.
Work with the victim to stop the offending behavior.
Not tell the victim to ignore it, to sort it out them or to hit back.”
http://www.nobully.org.nz/guidelines.htm
Stopping bullying
Bullying hurts kids and kids need to grow in a peaceful environment.
Bullying is commonly seen in schools and not for that reason, it means it is normal, we need to make all things in our hands to stop it, and we do not have to accept it.
“Nobody has the right to hurt other people by hitting them, kicking them, calling them names, spreading rumours about them or by doing anything else which is intended to be upsetting.”
“We sometimes see bullying as an inevitable part of childhood. Yet, according to world-wide research, 50% reductions in rates of bullying are possible. The Stop bullying now intervention is based on the work of many researchers in bullying prevention”.
http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2007/06/adviceforyoungpeople

Bullying is an international problem that affects all schools. There is a remarkable similarity in the incidence of bullying from country to country, school to school. Bullying knows no international boundaries, socio-economic status or ethnic boundaries.
To stop hurtful behavior, we all need to respond when it occurs and take steps to prevent it. The first step is recognizing when there is a problem.
Bullying is not a normal part of growing up but some people think that bullying is normal that some kids are stronger than others and that make the difference but not for that reason those kids need to abuse and hurt other kids.

Being a bully may affect a child’s future.

Saida Rodríguez

There are reasons why some people bully and this can affect the lives of the bullies. One of the reasons that bullys act as they do is because for them bullying is a way of being popular, or making themselves seem tough. Bullies do it to get attention or to make other people afraid. Others might be jealous of the person they are bullying for different reasons. Sometimes bullies might victims of bullying themselves and think that making other people feels bad will make them feel good.
Bullies are more likely to be involved in ongoing antisocial and criminal behavior, have issues with substance abuse, have low academic achievement, and abuse their spouse or children later in life. In some cases it could be abuse of their partner or if they form a family the abuse can affect the children. This is a very serious problem because the bullying phenomenon can pass from generation to generation.
Bullies usually have their own problems that cause them to pick on others and if they are allowed to bully these problems may never be resolved. Bullies often have friends but these relationships are destructive and only help to grow bullying. The effects of bullying on bullies are usually realized in school and in the home.
A bully who is never taught to deal with his other problems will most likely end up being aggressive and bullying others in their adult life. Bullies are also can be more likely to commit crimes and to be involved in illegal things when they get older. Bullies often end up being problematic persons throughout their lives.
Children need to understand that being a bully is wrong and not positive at all. Children need to feel loved, safe and secure and this will most likely help the child build confidence levels.

Victims of bullying.

Saida Rodriguez.

Parents and teachers can help explain to victims what bullying is, they can also explain the causes of this phenomenon, this would give victims of bullying the confidence and support to stop being victims.
The victims of bullying often are very sensitive children. They aren't able to dodge a conflict with humor .Such children are often serious. They have less skill in fighting and most lose fights. Victims can be selected from any category, although neglected children are often more likely to be victims.
Many victims of bullying are so terrified of a bully that they suffer in silence. This is often because the victim doesn’t have enough confidence to talk with an adult.
Children need to understand that they are free to form their days building friendships, and dreaming about all the possibilities for their lives. Also victims often ordered by bullies to say nothing. In this case the communication with children, parents and teachers is very important.
Victims of bullies tend to be anxious as a result of bullying. It is difficult for many children to speak freely in class. This is a characteristic of timid children. It is important to observe the attitude of children, to see if they have a problem, and know the difference between a victim of bullying and child timid. Many times we think that the victims of bullying are quiet children that are hesitant to defend and protect themselves. This is because sometimes parents protect them a lot and they can not explore the real world. Sometimes the victims of bullying have bad habits that may be difficult for adults to deal with.
The affects of bullying can be seen even after the victims grow up. Victims can have feelings of bitterness, desire for revenge, difficulty trusting people, personal difficulties, fear of new social situations, the taste for being alone, self-esteem problems, and other factors that can negatively affect their lives. In another case bullying toughens victims and prepares them for the real world. It is important to teach children that they can become good people with successful lives if they learn to defend themselves.

There are things that parents can do if their child is bullied by other children.

Recognizing when a kid is being bulling is not easy and parents have the most important role and responsibility in these cases.
Families should recognize when a kid is being bullied.
Parents need to have special attention to recognize when something is not normal with their kids. Maybe the most important clue to recognize bulling is when children do not like to go to school.
These are some points that can help parents to know if their kid is being bullied:
· “Your child getting upset at the thought of going to school
· Your child saying he feels too 'unwell' to attend school every day
· A change in the usual behaviour pattern of your child - he may become very quiet, resentful or be more demanding of your time.
· Unexplained cuts and bruises”
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/parents/life/health_happiness/health/bullying.shtml

Parents need to do something to stop bulling.
Parents are the most responsible for stopping bullying, but also they need to work together with the school, because this is the place where bulling usually takes place.
There are a lot of things that make kids feel insecure. As a result of insecurity, they may not talk with others about their problem of bulling.
These are points that parents can use for talk with their kids and help them.
· “Some children are afraid to talk about bullying as they think telling an adult might make things worse. Whatever age your child is, let him know that you are there for him to talk about anything if he needs to.
· If your child does tell you he is being bullied, help him to feel that it's not his fault and that he doesn't deserve to be bullied. Talk together about what you can both do to stop the bullying.
· Do take your child seriously if he says he's being bullied. The problem may be easy to sort out, and it may even seem trivial to you, but he needs to feel you're on his side. Remember, girls can be bullies, and they often bully boys, too.
· If other students at the school are bullying your child, the school has a responsibility to try to sort the problem out.
· If your child is being bullied at school, encourage him to talk to his teacher or form tutor as well as to you.
· Contact the school and make an appointment yourself, too. A teacher, tutor or year head will know all the children well and will be able to help you decide the best way of sorting out the problem.
· During this appointment, do address the issue calmly. It's natural to feel angry but there isn't any point in being confrontational with the teacher. Discuss the problem and try to come to a resolution. If you feel the issue isn't being dealt with effectively, you may need to contact a more senior member of staff.
· If your child tells you about being bullied, keep a record of every incident, noting down what happened with dates and times. This will be useful evidence to take to the school if the bullying continues.
· Sometimes bullying takes place out of school hours. It might also be done by students from a different school. If this happens, schools may need to work together to resolve the problem.
· Parents of children being bullied could get together and form an anti-bullying action group to support their children.”
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/parents/life/health_happiness/health/bullying.shtml

Parents need to stop bullying because they are responsible for giving children a good example of life.
Parents have the responsibility for stopping their kids if they know that they are bulling other kids. Children who bully need special attention in order to make a change in their lives.
This information can help parents in this case:
“If you find out that your child is bullying others, it's likely to be a shock. Do try to stay calm, though, so you can get to the bottom of what's going on.
· Discuss what has been going on with your child and find out his side of the story. Children bully for a number of reasons. It may be that he is being bullied himself, or he may be trying to get attention or become popular with a group.
· Help your child to understand how his actions are affecting other children. You may need to talk about this over a period of time. He needs to know that bullying is totally unacceptable.
· If the bullying is happening at school, talk to your child's teacher or form tutor to get a better picture of what is going on and what can be done.
· If there are other children involved in the bullying, they may be putting pressure on each other. It may help to speak to their parents - they will probably be as anxious as you are to put an end to the problem. “

We already know is that bulling is a big problem, but parents are the ones who must do everything they can to control this problem.
No matter if their child is the one who bullies or the one that is being bullied, parents need to work as a team with the school to stop this problem and make their children feel better.

This article talks about how bullying costs the community a lot of money. It is based on the Canadian system, but it is a point that your group has not covered. Maybe someone will want to write about it.

Outline (Bullying in School)

TEAM: REBECA MONTOYA, GEORGINA ABURTO, ANA SERRATO, SAIDA RODRIGUEZ

Topic: Bully children at schools

Thesis statement:
Bullying in schools is believed to be a normal part of school life, however, when people begin to have this mentality, they forget that bullying is physically and psychologically harmful to both the bully and the victim. Therefore, bullying must be eradicated from schools by raising awareness and increasing supervision.

I. Introduction
A. Background
B. Recently there’s been much increased awareness of bullying in schools and whilst may appear that bullying is on increase
II. Causes of why children bully
A. Why do children show their frustration to weakness children?
1. A child is impaired in some way and is frustrated and resentful because the source of their difficulty has not been identified. Bullying in schools is a worldwide problem that can have negative consequences for the general school climate and for the right of students to learn in a safe environment without fear.

2. The child is being bullied, so the responsible adults have repeatedly failed in their duty of care.
B. Abuse at home & a poor role model talks about the kind of relationship the children will have at school.
1. The child has no role model at home, or a poor role model for on or both parents and has never the opportunity to learn behavior skills. 2. The child is being abused and is expresing their anger through bullying.
III. Several children get harmed physically and psychologically because of bullying.
A. There continues to be a good deal of resistance to the view that bullying is harmful to the health of children. Some of the resistance comes from people who proudly assert that being bullied at school never did them any harm. http://www.ericdigests.org/1997-4/bullying.htm
B. Children tell us many things about bullying in schools.
1. Knowledge gained from children is important for two reasons. Firstly, although awareness of the sad consequences for children of continual bullying is certainly increasing, there is still on the part of some schools and some educational authorities a marked reluctance to acknowledge how serious it is; and secondly, if planned and effective action to stop school bullying is going to happen, we need to know what schoolchildren themselves are prepared to do to rid our schools of this persistent problem.

IV. Characteristics or facts of bully children and reactions of their victims.
A. The major defining physical characteristic of victims is that they tend to be physically weaker than their peers--other physical characteristics such as weight, dress, or wearing eyeglasses do not appear to be significant factors that can be correlated with victimization.
http://www.ericdigests.org/1997-4/bullying.htm
1. Students who are victims of bullying are typically anxious, insecure, cautious, and suffer from low self-esteem, rarely defending themselves or retaliating when confronted by students who bully them. They may lack social skills and friends, and they are often socially isolated.
2. Students who engage in bullying behaviors seem to have a need to feel powerful and in control. They appear to derive satisfaction from inflicting injury and suffering on others, seem to have little empathy for their victims, and often defend their actions by saying that their victims provoked them in some way
B. Bullying at schools leaves several consequences in their victims.
1. As established by studies in Scandinavian countries, a strong correlation appears to exist between bullying other students during the school years and experiencing legal or criminal troubles as adults.
2. Victims often fear school and consider school to be an unsafe and unhappy place

V. Adults have the responsibility in their hands, they could make the difference between creating a bully or saving one.
A.I think it is important not to immediately blame individuals. and specially not teachers. The problem, as so often lies further up the management chain.
We all have collective responsibility and bullying is the result of a number of factors. I believe the way forward is to identify all the factors and especially the causes.
